Starting house cleaning service might not feel like a glamorous occupation, but it was the most profitable and simplest business I ever run. I had two young children at the time, and I wanted to be with them but also needed some extra income. A person convinced me that this business would give me everything I needed.

So, how do you start your own cleaning service?

You can buy a cleaning franchise, or you could do it all on your own wits. Buying a franchise is very expensive, and there are other drawbacks which I spoke of in another article. Doing everything by yourself might mean making lots of mistakes, wasting time and money.

Obviously, the best option is to learn from someone who did this already and can lead you step by step to your goal, which is a successful and profitable business. My way of doing things here is to do everything in the shortest time for maximum profit.

What is your business model?

I know that you don’t really want to clean homes by yourself. That’s why you hire self-employed cleaners. You meet them just once to check them out, and sign an agency agreement. There is no need to meet any of your clients. And the most important thing in this business model is a REPEAT cleaning. A client wants a cleaner to come every week for a certain (same) number of hours. And you get paid every month directly to your bank. No more chasing clients or cleaners. Everything runs by itself. That is why I never worked on the business for more than 9 hours a week.

How do you make your money?

Your job is only to find clients and make sure that everything runs smoothly. You should be well-organised and self-driven person. That’s all. The more clients you have, the more money you will make. So this business is very flexible. You can have only thirty clients, but you can have 300 or 3000. It is up to you. You can start your agency in your own area, and later move to other areas. You can also franchise this business and sell your franchises to other people in other cities.

This business model also works well for any REPEAT service in your community for example dog walking, window cleaning, gardening, help services for older people.

Most money for the least work.

Follow my example. I started a home cleaning AGENCY. I never cleaned homes myself because I had self-employed cleaners. I just organized everything and never had to see my clients. Each cleaner I just met once to sign an agreement. I didn’t work more than 9 hours a week. Thanks to my agency I put my two children through private schools.
